Hail Comic (2015 to 2018)

Hail is a superhero comic about a woman named Lena who crumbles into shards of glass as a symptom of anxiety. We follow her as she learns to control it, turning it into a superpower and a source of strength. One of the interpretations of the glass metaphor is that glass, in different forms, can be both fragile and strong similar to the human mind, which can be both malleable and resilient. There’s also a lot of bad-guy ass kicking and quirky characters such as the sassy best friend, a dorky but kind-hearted coworker, a mysterious/lone-wolf ninja and more.

Behind Hail is a team of 14 artists, lead by project manager and writer, Miranda Richardson. The project ran over the course of 3 years, and in 2017, the comic was shortlisted in the Ledger Awards. Thanks to everyone's hard work, there are currently 7 issues which can be read online [http://hailcomic.com/] and in stores at Greenlight Comic (Adelaide) and All Star Comics (Melbourne).

The blue and red were stylistically chosen to convey the cold, calculating nature of the antagonist, and the anger and danger that comes with him.

I used a lot of references of dogs, and did my best to simplify and exaggerate their facial expressions.

Other than the covers, my role as Lead Artist heavily revolved around the drafting/pencilling of the characters.

Here is an example of a completed page. There were two designated background aritsts, but all artists alternated between inking and colouring whilst Miranda focused on script writing and lettering.
